Remove the turbo outlet pipe from the car. Use a 13mm wrench and remove the two bolts holding the heat shield in place and remove the heat shield along with the upper support bracket for the turbo pipe. Working at the rear of the engine remove the three 17mm bolts holding the turbo to the exhaust manifold.

The 2019 VW Golf has swapped its former 1.8-liter turbocharged engine for the newer 1.4-liter turbo also found in the new Jetta. or new 7-speed DSG automatic. Both the Golf and GTI are front 1600 to 1800 'conversion'. The GTI up to 1981 had a 1600cc (EG code) engine, 1982 and onwards used the DX (1800cc) engine. These blocks are very similar (see differences here) and with the age of the original engine, its not uncommon to find a 1981 or earlier car with an 1800 engine. The 'conversion' at a minimum, involves nothing more than 1.8t is a great car. 2.0 is not worthy of a Gti badge but 2.0 is alot better on insurance so is worth considering if insurance is a issue. I have had the two and yes 1.8 T is quicker and more tunable but dont dismiss the 2.0 as a trim level it is good.
