Pressing the back switch smoothly arcs the back of the seat upward and downward, but the front switch only creates a motor sound accompanied by a seat vibration. Pulling the middle switch upward arcs the back of the seat upward and downward just like the back switch, although the vibration and loudness is heard, just like with the front switch. You will feel a circular plastic collar and on the edge of this there is a raised push button. Press/slide it firmly in and at the same time lift the headrest upwards and it will come out. Sure you lose that middle seat but I don’t think anyone actually likes sitting in that position anyway. I don’t miss the bench seat at all. I suppose the one drawback is with stuff in the back when the third row is down.

1.Position the seat being serviced all the way forward. 2.Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. 4.Remove the screw that secures the seat cushion side trim panel to the seat frame. 5.Using Trim Stick, carefully disengage the tabs that secure the seat cushion side trim panel to the rear of the seat.

To remove the rear seat from a Jeep Cherokee, first disconnect the negative battery cable. Next, remove the seat belt pretensioners and shoulder harnesses. Then, remove the seatback trim panels and the seat bottom cushion. Finally, remove the bolts that attach the seat to the floor and lift the seat out.

Tips: 1) release the seat back so you can tilt the seat which will make accessing that left side button easier and allow removal of the headrest without hitting the car roof. 2) Once removed, do not set the headrest on the back seat.
